SCULPTURE DISPLAYS TALENT OF KENTUCKY STUDENT
Thomas Williams is a four-year
senior at Franklin County Career and
Technical Center in Kentucky and a
student of Randy Shewmaker. Thomas
competed in the SkillsUSA Regional
and State competitions with his
covered wagon sculpture that provides
a view of transportation 200 years ago
and allows his audience to see how it
varied from today’s vehicles.
With plans to become a pipe welder
when he graduates from high school,
Thomas Williams
Thomas has been at the top of his class
and Mr. Shewmaker has put him in a
leadership role with the younger students in the welding program. His
co-op position is with MVH Plumbing and Pipefitting Company that does
contract work at Toyota Manufacturing Company.
The welding program at Franklin Co. CTC has 125 students per year from 9 to 12 grade. Randy Shewmaker, a graduate of

BCTCS and Eastern Kentucky University, utilizes training materials published by Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in
his successful welding program in Frankfort, Kentucky.
