At HIWT we have 2 different accredited programs. Tuition for the five month Structural
Program is $8,945. The nine month Combination/Structural-Pipe Welding Program is
$15,3400.00.
• Is financial aid available?
Yes! A variety of financial aid is available to those who qualify. The financial aid consists of
the Pell grant, subsidized loan, and unsubsidized loan. There additional loans available.
• I have never welded before, is that a problem?
Not at all! HIWT’s instructors are so talented and are capable of teaching all different
experience levels.

Yes, we have many students who are veterans that utilize their veteran’s benefits.
• I have a few certifications from my high school welding class. Can I transfer these for credits toward classes at
HIWT?
Unfortunately, no. With welding certifications there are liability and legal concerns that don’t allow certifications to
transfer. However, there is an opportunity to test out of five basic classes at HIWT. Please call HIWT to find out more
information about prerequisite testing.
• When I graduate from HIWT will I have any certifications?
Yes! You will have an opportunity to earn up to three American Welding Society certifications in the five month program
and up to four American Welding Society certifications in the nine month program.
• Does HIWT have dorms?
No, but we do offer a housing list that is available on our website (www.welding.org). All landlords on our housing list
have met our criteria. However, please rely on your own inspections when considering housing to find what is right for
you.

Yes, there are several scholarships available. We strongly suggest applying for all scholarships for which you may
qualify. Scholarships applications are available through the HIWT website (www.welding.org).

Yes, since we have a first shift (8am-4pm) and a second shift (4pm-11:30pm), many of our students work part time jobs
while attending school.
• Will I be placed into a welding position when I graduate from HIWT?
While HIWT as well as any other school cannot guarantee employment, we do have to maintain at least a 78% placement
rating to keep our accreditation. Job fairs are held periodically and job leads are posted.
• My high school welding instructor would like for a representative to travel and talk to our classes. Is that
possible?
Depending on location and scheduling, that may be possible. HIWT’s representatives appreciate the opportunity to talk
with welding classes at various schools and discuss the advantages of careers in welding. Please inform your teacher to
call Kevin Trick at 937-332-9522 (Kevin.Trick@welding.org) or Janet Piechocki at 937-332-9515 (Janet.Piechocki@
