support the work of our 100+ technical committees made up “I highly recommend this class to anyone who’s involved
of 2,000 industry volunteers,” said Davis. “The Hobart course in the welding industry even if they aren’t actually welding
gives staff that does not have welding technology or themselves,” said Borrero. “It’s great to feel like you have
engineering background practical, hands-on welding process a solid background of the welding field in addition to some
fundamentals to better contextualize their committee work hands-on experience that gives you a visual to go along with
and the field as a whole.” it.”

The course covers safety in welding and cutting and provides
a lab where students can try their hand at various processes
including oxyfuel welding, cutting and brazing, shielded metal
arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding and
            gas tungsten arc welding.

“The Hobart class really compliments what we do as a society
and an industry,” adds Abrams. “Seeing some of the other
people in our class who work for large engineering firms
and manufacturers and knowing that they count on AWS to
advance the science, technology and application of welding, Efram Abrams used shielded metal arc welding
gives you a real appreciation of what we do. It was also nice to create his name plate.
to see our standards and issues of our Welding Journal in the
            Hobart library.”

Abrams and Borrero are not the first AWS employees to take
the Welding for the Non-Welder course at Hobart. Steve
Hedrick, AWS manager of safety and health, took the course a
few years ago and Davis would like to send more of his staff
            in the future.
