Hobart institute Hosts tour for national
ManufaCturing day
In celebration of the 12 million talented men
and women who work in the industry, October
5 was designated as National Manufacturing
Day, an initiative started by the National
Association of Manufacturers. The day
is designed to expand knowledge about
and improve general public perception of
manufacturing careers and manufacturing’s
value to the U.S. economy.
A group of Troy High School students,
primarily juniors and seniors, along with
representatives from the Troy Development
Council (TDC) of the Troy Area Chamber
of Commerce toured the Hobart Institute
of Welding Technology (HIWT) to learn
about real career opportunities, training,
and resources available to them in their
community. Following their morning visit
to HIWT, the group traveled to Kerber Sheet Scott Mazzulla, Director of Planning and Development of Hobart Institute, answers
Metal, SEW Eurodrive, Freudenberg, Miami questions for Troy High School students as they tour the Institute.
Jacobs Career College, Clopay, and Stillwater
Technologies, all companies in Troy, to learn
more about these manufacturing facilities.
In addition, the State Legislature of Ohio designated October as Manufacturing Month in the State. Companies across the
United States participated by holding open houses and other activities for the public.
According to J.C. Wallace, President of the Troy Development Council, “Students are the workforce of the future and the TDC
provided students with information packets about manufacturing in the area.”
The students were interested in career opportunities available to dedicated workers, the required training to reach their goals,
and the expectations of professional attitude within the manufacturing industry.
