It is painful to observe that the United States narrowly
achieved an average rating in reading and science and
was below average in mathematics! For umpteen years
our politicians have talked about the need for reforming our
education system. Here is a real-life example what can work:
In the Blueprint Reading for Welders and Fitters course at
Hobart Institute, there is a “Review of Mathematics” section.
Many students have serious problems with this relatively
simple and very basic subject. But during the course, many
students “get it” and claim: “This was never explained to us
this way; now I understand!”

I think a point can be made that how the topic is delivered
to the students makes a big difference. Instructors can make
a world of difference! In conclusion, one of our instructors If we are able to concentrate just on improving these two
