THE WORLD OF WELDING http://www.welding.org

PUTTING STUDENTS TO THE TEST PREPARES THEM TO

            FACE THE FUTURE WITH CONFIDENCE

Each year, Neil Mansfield’s senior class at Assabet Regional
Technical High School has an opportunity to complete various
projects to present to a panel of professionals for judging. The
activity always provides a learning experience for the students
and an opportunity for business owners within the area to
interact with the students and with their counterparts.

“This is the third time I’ve been involved in the judging
of senior projects at Assabet and once again it has been an
uplifting experience and one that showcases the dedication of
staff and students to Assabet’s mission,” said Fred Mikkelsen,
Editor & Director of the New England Blacksmiths. “The five
young people, whose projects I judged, showcased varying
levels of proficiency but they all exhibited a level of maturity
and skill that sets them apart from the average graduating high Left to right: Instructor Neil Mansfield, Students Kyle DeAlmeida,
school student.” Rebecca Johnson (post graduate), Josh Lassiter, Kevin McNair, and
                                                               Andrew Leonard.
In addition to the specific project, students are judged on their
professionalism, subject knowledge, body language, display
boards and documentation as it relates to the project, and their
preparation. It provides students with working knowledge and

a foundation of communication skills to present themselves in future professional careers. (Continued on page 15)
