            REGIONAL SKILLSUSA COMPETITION HELD AT HOBART

            INSTITUTE




















            Welding students from ten career technology  centers came
            together at Hobart Institute on a Saturday in late February to
            participate  in the annual Regional  SkillsUSA Competition.
            Sharing the day with the students and their instructors was
            James Ruble, Manufacturing  and Engineering  Consultant
            for  Career  and  Technical  Education,  Ohio  Department  of
            Education.

            The students were evaluated on their abilities in oxyacetylene
            cutting, flux cored arc welding, shielded metal arc welding,     Josh Monroe from Eric Felts’ class at Laurel
            and gas metal arc welding.   At the end of the day, three        Oaks,  Adam  Hipsher and  Joe  Dunn  from Shane
            students were judged to be the top contestants including Josh    McKinney’s class at Butler Tech were the top three
            Monroe, Adam Hipsher, and Joe Dunn.                              winners of the competition.

            The event was coordinated  by Hobart Institute  Technical
            Instructor  Russ Shurtz working with contest  administrator
            Russ Crosswaithe of Diamond Oaks Career  Development
            Center.    Hobart  Institute  students  Doug and  Trina  Davis
            and Thomas Oliver along with Instructors Chuck Ford, Tom
            Sumerix, and Jon Brittingham assisted with the competition     Welding education online
            throughout the day.

            about HIWT courses, training materials and services.
