Bill who is a retired teacher and local collector of art, offered to
fund future projects and has made donations to help students in
need of financial assistance for supplies and educational field trips.
Any scrap material that is left over from each sculpture is cut into
coupons and used for practice by students. Throughout the years,
Austin Lake Cabins has become a museum of sorts that would make
any paleontologist proud.
To date, Todd’s classes have made the Velociraptor, a Teranadon,
a Gargoyle, a King Cobra and a Chinese Dragon. Ideas for future
projects involve a crocodile and other exotic animals. Delivering the
sculptures are as much fun as making them. They are brought over
on a flatbed trailer as curious onlookers slow down for a second
look. The sculptures are displayed throughout Austin Lake Cabins
and RV Park and the campers are always excited to see what animal
is going to show up.
When asked what he thought of all the wonderful sculptures
that have been made over the years, Todd simply says, “I am very
thankful for all the students who have worked to make this possible
and grateful to Bill Cable for the financial support he provides to
keep this activity going.” After this story, World of Welding readers
will be waiting to see what animal shows up next year also.
