Entering The Welding Industry Begins With An “easy A”

                                           February 2016

Santa Rita High School, Tucson, Arizona 1983 I was an incoming freshman. Hundreds of
students waiting in multiple lines to register for high school classes to complete our “schedule”
                                           and get locker assignments.

Clueless was the best way to describe this process, had no idea what to take other than I was in
search of the easiest Math, easiest English, and easiest Social Studies etc. Then a friend said
“Hey, let’s take welding, I hear it’s an easy A”. My initial thought was “sign me up”!

Getting into the welding industry with an “easy A” mindset led to a life setting journey. High
School welding to Hobart Institute to Pipe Welding to Welder Fabricator to Robotic Welding to
Sales to Management to C-Level Professional, this path started with an “easy A”.

For our students here at HIWT deciding to embrace a career in the welding industry is certainly
a life changing decision. Entering into a field that is in high demand and incredible shortage
of welders its an opportunity for long term sustainability of employment. They all chose this
By Scott A. Mazzulla, President incredible institute and other fine welding schools to learn a valuable skill to set them into a
Hobart Institute of Welding Technology career journey and it started with an “easy A” as well.

Entering the welding industry and having substantial career growth comes full circle to the “easy A”

Definition of an “easy A” has evolved into ATTITUDE.

Well over 100 employers each year post welding jobs and visit the institute to hire our graduates. Graduates with the skill to weld is
given, what these employers consistently emphasizes is the “easy A” component. A graduate with a positive attitude, drive and ambition
are important factors to not only land the job but to create that journey of career growth and success.

What started as a journey from a path of least resistance continues to be a journey of hard work, patience and reward.
