HIWT Holds Collaborate To Educate Event

            Collaborate to Educate is an annual event held by Hobart Institute
            of Welding Technology to allow a forum where welding instructors
            and other welding professionals come together to discuss best
            practices, challenges, and changes in the education as well as to
            hear speakers from the welding industry.  This year’s event was
            held on June 27 and 28, 2017.  Twenty instructors and education
            professionals attended the event.  Instructor speakers were Brian




























                                                               for scholarships to be given to the winning schools students and
                                                               applied toward tuition to attend HIWT.  This year’s winners were:
                                                               Phil Bedel from Whitewater Career Center - $350, Lora James from
                                                               Benjamin Logan FFA - $800 and Tom Younts from Southeastern High
                                                               School - $550.
            Mikesell from Kokomo School Corporation
            in Kokomo, Indiana, Bill Pencil from Tolles
            Career and Technical Center in Plain City,
            OH and Phil Bedel of Whitewater Career
            Centers in Connersville, IN.  They discussed
            various ways in which they run their welding
            programs, how to deal with challenges in
            the classroom and shared success stories
            concerning their students.  Additionally,
            speakers from the welding gas industry,
            air movement systems and the American
            Welding Society shared industry specific
            topics related to welding.  A presentation
            was also given addressing interview
            techniques and soft skills to assist students
            in their career endeavors.  The Collaborate
            to Educate event allows instructors to earn
            continuing education units that they are
            required to achieve as well as returning fifty
            percent of the attendance proceeds back to
            the attending schools in the form of a raffle
