HIWT Staff Attends Elementary School Career Day

Career Development staff members April
Wise and Emily Fox attended Career Day at
Kyle Elementary School in Troy, OH. This
event exposed the students to some of the
various career opportunities that await them.
Each participant spoke for 15 minutes to 6
different groups of students ranging from
10-15 per group about what a typical day and
work hours would look like in the respective
job, how much schooling or training was
required for the position and where the person
speaking attended school.
April and Emily spoke about the shortage of
workers in the skilled trades and about the
feld of welding specifcally. Students were
shown actual pieces of welded materials, a
video of Gas Metal Arc Welding and were
even able to put on the protective equipment
that is required when welding.
The students were very receptive to the feld
of welding. They were extremely engaged
and asked a lot of questions. stated April
Wise. Some of the students even expressed

Emily were impressed with the amount of Emily Fox
knowledge the students had about welding. It
was a great experience for both the folks at
HIWT as well as the students at Kyle.
