The Lacy Brothers Keeping it in the Family

            By: April Wise
Hunter, 21 and Cooper, 19 are two competitive brothers who were born and raised in Westerville OH. They both decided to attend Hobart
Institute of Welding Technology and take the Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program at the same time in August of 2020. The
brothers both fell in love with welding when Cooper, the younger brother, went to the Delaware Career Center for the welding program. He
only wanted to do the program because they had oxyacetylene and that is what he really wanted to do, but after touching all the processes
he soon became excited to learn all he could about welding. Hunter, the older brother, was able to come into the career center one day
to try out welding for the first time and see if he would also enjoy it. After they both had a taste of welding they knew Hobart Institute of
Welding Technology was the school they wanted to go to for furthering their welding career.

The boys were asked if there was any welders in the family and Hunter said “No, my dad’s a police officer and mom is a hair stylists so we
will be the odd balls”. Hunter really enjoys Flux and TIG welding while Cooper’s favorite is TIG. Both young men graduated June 11 and
plan to work in a fabrication shop and weld on cars . They want to stay close to home so they can still be with their family. Since they both
enjoy TIG, they plan to buy a welder for home use and weld for others on the side.
