HIWT Holds Collaborate to Educate Instructor Conference June 8 -9

Hobart Institute of Welding welcomed welding instructors from
five different states to gather together to discuss best practices
in the classrooms, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and
heard presentations on classroom safety, AWS® membership and
information, combatting the skills gap and workforce shortage,
apprenticeship opportunities and Union information. The
group toured the campus which included the new welding Pipe
Layout and Pipe Downhill labs as well as hearing from Scott A.
Mazzulla, HIWT President about new courses being added to the
curriculum at HIWT. It was a great opportunity to get together
and brainstorm new ideas for classroom learning. At the end of
the conference, a drawing was held to give away vouchers the
instructors can use to help a student in need attend HIWT. Hart
Career Center represented by Scott Ulrich was the recipient of
the $1,500 voucher and Springfield-Clark CTC represented by
Brian Sheward received the $1,000 voucher. Congratulations to
them and the students who will receive the voucher.
