HIWT Attends SEMA Show

Hobart Institute of Welding Technology attended the SEMA Show November 2-5
in Las Vegas, NV. SEMA – Specialty Equipment Marketing Association Show is
the premier trade show geared to help small businesses thrive and succeed. The
trade-only event enables automotive specialty equipment manufacturers to display
alongside automotive manufacturers to debut new, innovative products, and connect
with industry buyers from all over the world. It is the only trade show that brings
together every segment of the automotive industry, from hot rods and off-roads to
mobile electronics and collision repair. “The SEMA Show was a first time for us as an
exhibitor”, said Scott A. Mazzulla, President & CEO. “We had high expectations going
in, but not knowing exactly what to expect in Las Vegas. The crowd was large every
day and the quality of conversations were great.”
The HIWT team networked with individuals representing companies across the
nation about how the Institute could assist with training and retention of welders
on their staff, as well as how companies can hire graduates of our college. HIWT
Skill Education Instructor Ben Gibson who worked the show booth said, “SEMA
Show 2021 was an absolute blast. Although it was a massive show, showcasing all
the juggernauts of the automotive industry and their products it also served smaller
“mom and pop” shops. This dynamic made it fun to walk around and talk to people
not only seeing what they have to offer, but also how HIWT could help them grow as
a company”. Skill Instructor Dustin Schellhaas also attended the show and had this to
say, “It was an honor to be able to represent Hobart Institute of Welding Technology
at SEMA 2021. While the pandemic had reduced the number of attendees and
vendors this year there was no doubt that the future of the industry remains bright.
The show had displays from new and exciting vendors and respected mainstays alike.
While reaching out to these vendors as well as many attendees I am left with the
overwhelming impression that the Institute offers services that our industry needs and
that the students who have and will attend the Institute will play a vital part in the
future. I look forward to Hobart Institute of Welding Technology being a familiar face
       at future SEMA shows.”

       HIWT Awards Welder

       By: Melinda Gladish
Twice a year, Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) raffles off a welder. To
be eligible to be in the drawing, a graduate must report their “initial success” (aka first
job in welding) within 90 days of graduation. The Fall 2021 winner was Joseph Miller.
Joseph is a January 2021 graduate of the Combination Structural and Pipe Welding
Program. Upon graduation, Joseph went to work for Johnson Welded Products in
Urbana welding pressure vessels. Hobart Institute of Welding congratulates Joseph on
winning the welder and wishes him continued success in his welding career.
