HIWT Rides A Truck for the Future
By: April Wise
Kristian Harshbarger is a Combination Structural
& Pipe Welding Program student at HIWT who is
currently in the SMAW 6G position pipe class. Upon
completion he will go into the SMAW 2 pipe class.
Kristian was born and raised in Centerville, OH and
graduated from Centerville High School in 2018. He
enrolled right out of high school at the young age of 18
and he knows what he wants his future to be.
Kristian did 4 years of wood shop class in high school
where he built a custom head board on his own. Even
though he loves wood working he chose welding
because he felt there was more of a demand for
welders in the industry. Kristians 16 year old self said
You dont have to choose a traditional university and
says he chose Hobart Institute of Welding Technology
because its the best welding school around. What
he enjoys best about welding is having the opportunity
to learn a trade not many can do.
Kristian has had his 1997 7.3 turbo diesel for a year
and a half and when he graduates from HIWT in April
2019 he plans on turning it into a welding rig so he can
either join the pipe line or start his own welding and
fabrication company.
Some of his hobbies are working on his truck that he
bought on his own and calls Wendy. He also enjoys
wakeboarding and snowboarding, skeet shooting and
loves working with his hands and creating welding art
for his mom.
