AWS Philadelphia Section Welding Contest

            Chris Baker, welding teacher of Dorchester County School of
            Technology in Cambridge, Maryland hosted the AWS Philadelphia
            section welding contest on Saturday, March 24 2018. Along with
            Dorchester’s principal Kermit Hines, 6 teams were represented
            at the event. They were: CAT North Anne Arundel County, (Brad
            Martin), CAT South Anne Arundel County, (Aaron Parks), Carroll
            County (Michael Schweinsberg), Wicomico County Parkside
            Technical Center, (Jon Brittingham), Cecil County, (Charles Wood),
            Dorchester County CTC (Chris Baker).
            There were some ambitious students and enthusiastic parents
            attending the competition as well as presentations by Hobart
            Institute of Welding Technology and Penn College. District
            Director of the Philly AWS section, Ken Temme, Section
            Chair, Harry Graham and Treasurer Frank Srogota, were
            present throughout the event and announced the winners.
            Presiding judges CWI Alex Gagnon, CWI Shaun Smith
            with the help of Penn student Daniel Fillipelli, carefully
            inspected all welds and determined the winners. In the end
            Tyler Armold and Tyler Hickey from Cecil County School of
            Technology (Teacher: Charles Wood) took first and second
            place and Dylan Ickes from Parkside CTC (Teacher: Jonathan
            Brittingham) took third. Prizes were provided by Rich Keen of
            Keen Compressed Gas Co. Congratulations to all the students
            who participated in the event.
