Sticker Shock
By: Calvin Scharrer
Around the welding booths of Hobart Institute of Welding, in
the midst of all the hot metal and sparks, rested on the top of
the heads of future welders- welding helmet stickers are the
newest obsession. These imaginative, original additions to the
students’ helmets aren’t just for entertaining. Students use their
helmets to express their interests, show support for certain
welding products or companies, or even convey their desires for
things in life. They also offer a dose of amusement throughout
the day. Many of our students come from different states with
different cultures, and different backgrounds. It’s a way for them
to express their outlooks or passions. Some even see it as a map
of places they have been or projects they’ve built. So if you ever
see a welder working in a factory, or on the road, or even here at
Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, look at their helmet and
it might tell you the story of their past or where they see their
future going.
