Program Change Announced
Hobart Institute of Welding Technology announces changes to the 40-week
Combination Structural and Pipe Welding Program for 2022, including name
change and program restructuring. The program, now called the Pathways
Welding Program, provides students 40-weeks of welder training that
is comprised of 2 separate modules – 24 weeks of core training courses
followed by 16 weeks of training in a defined career pathway.
During the first module the students participate in multiple career advising
sessions where they learn about the wide variety of welding careers, current
opportunities, potential salaries and the skills needed to be successful in
these roles. Students have 5 different Pathway options including Pipefitter,
Pipe Welder, Welder/Fabricator, Gas Tungsten Arc Welder, and Downhill Pipe
Welder.
These changes are a direct result of student and employer feedback as well
as input from the Institute’s Program Advisory Committee. “We feel this
is a great opportunity for our students. It provides them focused training
based on their desired career, which enhances their skills and improves their
employability and confidence as a welder,” states Charlie Carpenter, Director
of Education.
