WELDING AN OBVIOUS CHOICE FOR HARD-WORKING
TEEN
Kiersten plans to attend Sinclair Community College where
she is receiving the Miami Valley Tech Prep Scholarship. She
then plans to transfer to The Ohio State University and major
in Welding Engineering.
Her previous welding training and a lot of practice at Greene
County Career Center under instructors Mike Thompson and
Steve Stickle gave her the advantage she needed to take and
pass prerequisite tests in Welding Technology and Blueprint
Reading, Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting, Basic Shielded
Metal Arc Welding and Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. This
allowed her to move directly into the advanced classes.
“I was familiar with the Hobart curriculum and the location of
the Institute is convenient to my home” says Kiersten. “I enjoy
welding and it seemed to be a natural choice.”
Kiersten obtained her high school diploma as a home-schooled
student who is also a member of the National Technical Honor
Society. In 2010 she represented the Greene County Career

Leadership camps this summer,
along with finishing my Hobart
training.
Kiersten is the daughter of Mark
and Valery Dutenhaver. She enjoys
being the big sister to her 15-year-
old brother, Brennan, and two
sisters, Breonna, 10 and Kylee, 6.
