ARCTECH’S ROB SPENCE RETURNS TO HOBART FOR
CWI TRAINING
A company that believes in challenging work and continuing
education has added another certified welding inspector to their
staff by sending an employee to Hobart Institute for training.
Arctech Fabricating, Inc. of Springfield, Ohio, recently
provided the incentives for Robin (Rob) Spence to enroll in
the Preparation for the American Welding Society’s Certified
Welding Inspector /Educator (CWI/CWE) Examination. Rob
was pleased to quickly learn that he passed the rigorous, six-
hour AWS exam.
“I found the course to be enjoyable but also intense,” said Rob.
“Because of the excellent training materials and instructors, I
would highly recommend the course to others.”
This is the third certified welding inspector employed at
Arctech who has successfully completed the preparation
course at Hobart Institute. Rob Spence, Certified Welding Inspector

“Having CWI’s on our staff allows us to do certified work that
many companies cannot do,” explained Len McConnaughey,

This was not Rob’s first experience with Hobart Institute.
In 1973, he took a few basic welding courses, launching
his welding career from tool room/
maintenance welder to welding
process engineer to welding inspector.
At Arctech, Rob is a CWI, CMI
inspector in the Quality Assurance
Department. He has been with
Arctech since 2008.
The welding team at Arctech performs
challenging custom fabrication work
in gas tungsten arc and gas metal
arc welding on stainless steel, nickel
alloys, mild steel and aluminum. They
also have resistance spot / projection
weld capabilities. Arctech Fabricating
is site-qualified by such names at BAE,
Raytheon, and NASA as a preferred
vendor. They perform general,
military, and nuclear fabrication
work. Their diversified services have
kept their work flow steady during
difficult economic times.
