Welding instructor Mike Jenkins uses the conception and
production of the sculptures as teaching tools for his welding
students. “They have to learn how to weld in different positions in
order to create the sculptures the way they were intended. This has
been a very important learning process and a life-changing event
for our students. The project has taught them welding techniques
and many have earned various AWS certifications. Because of
involvement this project, many of our students are now considering
long-term careers in welding,“ states Jenkins. “Most of the
students have never worked on projects of this magnitude and they
enjoyed the time spent learning how to perfect their skills.”
