Hobart Handler Welder Awarded
By: April Wise
Twice a year, Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) raffles off a
Hobart Handler welder. To be eligible for the drawing, a graduate must
report their “initial success” (aka first job in welding) within 90 days of
graduation. The April 2021 winner was Matthew Kennedy. Matthew
graduated on July 31, 2020.
Matthew grew up and still lives in Sidney, Ohio. He decided to pursue
welding at HIWT so he could advance in the career he had already chosen
and was working in. He knew this would make him more valuable and
versatile at the company. Matthew said he selected Hobart because “they
are the top-rated weld school in my area and is one of the top technical
schools in America. They also can help greatly with job placement if I
should ever need it. I personally had a great experience at Hobart Institute.
All the instructors I had were very knowledgeable and wanted each
student to succeed. They would spend whatever time that was required
to work with you, so there would be a better understanding of what they
were struggling with. I am currently working at Slagle Mechanical where
I’m furthering my knowledge of welding with on-the-job experience. My
future plans are to advance my knowledge and experience with welding.
Since you’re never done learning new things about welding. I am glad I
chose Hobart Institute. The knowledge I learned there and the friendships
I was able to form I will have forever.
Hobart Institute of Welding congratulates Matthew and wishes him
continued success.
