Enhanced by the visual media that
surrounded the captivated audience gathered
in the history gallery, a presentation was
given on the history of welding.

André began with images of the early uses
of fire and metal and included descriptions
of scenes from early discoveries to modern
times. The journey through time included
the inventors and trailblazing companies, the
problems they encountered along the way,
and the contributions of welding to society.
André concluded with the current uses of
welding in today’s industry.

Following the presentation and a few
announcements from AWS Section Chair
Ben Finney, André autographed copies of his
new book, Welding: A Journey to Explore Its
Past.
The Past Chairman’s Night for the Dayton Section of the
American Welding Society was held at the Hobart Gallery
of Welding History in May. A short business meeting and
dinner preceded an award for 25 years of membership to Scott Welding: A Journey to Explore Its Past, by André Odermatt
