Students Get to Try Their Hand at Welding
by: Melinda Gladish
Hobart Institute of Welding Technology had the honor of hosting a
group of students from Northridge High School in Dayton, OH for
a one-day welding workshop. This workshop was designed to give
students who have never heard of, or been around welding, an
opportunity to see what it is all about.
After check-in, students were given a lesson in welding safety,
followed by instruction in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. After the
classroom portion, students had some lunch and then headed into
the welding lab area to do some hands-on welding. They were given
demonstrations by Justin Klosterman, Welding Instructor, Brian
Massie and Jacob Rader, Career Development Representatives and
then had some practice on basic plate. Once they got the hang of it,
students got to weld a metal project, choosing either an eagle, horse,
plane, cow, or pig. HIWT staff were on hand to provide assistance as
needed. The students and staff had a great time and we look forward
to hosting more events like this.
