August 21, 2017 was no ordinary day at Hobart Institute of Welding
Technology. Actually, it was no ordinary day all across the USA.
From coast to coast, people spent weeks shopping at local retailers
or online for glasses to view the Solar Eclipse. Here at HIWT,
the welding students and staff were ready – equipped with their
welding hoods – lenses loaded – ready to view what was, for most,
their first eclipse.

The HIWT supply store sold out of shade number 14 lenses several
days before the actual eclipse so some students purchased two
lenses that totaled 14 just to be able to watch. As the excitement
