The New Entrance is Open!
It was a long time coming – 64 years to be exact – but the Hobart
Institute of Welding Technology’s main campus building is finally able to
use the front entrance to greet potential students and visitors to campus.
Construction on the space began in January 2022 with an expected
completion/occupancy date of July. However, due to the continuing
supply chain issues that has impacted so many industries, the college
was not able to take occupancy until October.
Potential students and visitors are now greeted with an open concept
lobby showcasing some of the many things to do in Troy and the
surrounding areas, a brief history of the school, and large monitors
highlighting the program and corporate services offerings available at the
Institute.
Through the sliding doors is the John R. Blankenbuehler Memorial Library
which is comprised of welding related books, journals, and encyclopedias.
This library is the largest private welding library in the country. This
large space also offers computers for students to prepare their resumes,
search and apply for jobs and read about industries served in the field of
welding. There are also several seating areas for students to read and
relax during breaks.
The space has three offices, three conference rooms and a 48-seat
auditorium that is used for various campus and civic meetings,
orientations, and high school bus tours.
“The campus itself has always been a highlight for potential students and
visitors when they take tours. The sheer size and the fact that it is so
bright and clean has stood out over the years,” states Melinda Gladish,
Marketing and Career Development Manager. “Now we have a Welcome
Center and Student Resource Center that matches the grandeur of the
rest of the facility. Visitors have been impressed and very complimentary
of the new space”.
