Andrew McIllwain wins Welder

The Fall 2022 Right to Work welder winner is Andrew McIllwain. Andrew
is from Springfield, MO. Like many HIWT students, Andrew did not
attend a career center while in high school. It was only after graduation
that he decided to look into skilled trades, specifically welding. “When I
finished high school, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do,” stated Andrew.
“I decided to find a skilled trade and chose welding because it interested
me the most. I had taken a few welding courses at my local community
college and enjoyed it, so I stuck with it. I decided to attend Hobart
Institute of Welding Technology and took the Combination Structural and
Pipe Welding Program graduating with my diploma in welding on January
14, 2022”. After graduation, Andrew went to work for a company that
was close to home welding cryogenic freezers. “Welding has become a
good career path for me in the skilled trades”, added Andrew.

The Right to Work welder is awarded twice per year: spring and fall. To
be eligible for the drawing, graduates must let the career development
team know of their graduate employment within 90 days of graduation.
With over 3000 active jobs on the Institute’s job board, graduates have no
problem securing employment. If an employer wishes to be listed on the
job board, please visit the website at www.welding.org and click on the
Job Posting link at the top right-hand corner of the page.
