Additional Demonstration Booths

       By Janet Piechocki
As part of the ongoing upgrades happening at the college, HIWT has
added eight additional welding demonstration stations. These stations
are an integral part of the education received at the Institute. Students
start each day in class, where they view videos of what happens
to the molten metal as the weld is being made. This gives students
the opportunity to observe while an instructor is explaining what is
happening. Once the students are in the lab, the instructor demonstration
is yet another way to view the actual welding process in real time.
Students observe travel speed, angle, and technique and have the
       opportunity to ask questions.
Typically, students will get demonstrations several times each week,
approximately 4-5 students at a time, so everyone can observe up
close. This method also lends itself to the four predominant types of
learning styles: visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic. The more
opportunities of learning that a student has, the better they will do. That
is our goal here at the Institute. Providing all means and methods possible
       to ensure our students’ success.
