HOBART INSTITUTE HELPS PRESERvE 9/11 ARTIFACT

            By Marty Baker, Editor

A fascinating community project was brought to the attention
of Scott Mazzulla, Planning and Development Director of
Hobart Institute, a few months ago and was quickly endorsed
            by management and staff.

The Miami Valley Veterans’ Museum had acquired a piece of
a steel beam that was a remaining part of the World Trade
Center. Their committee was seeking a way to preserve and
display the artifact. Knowing Hobart Institute’s reputation,
they asked if the Institute’s staff could construct a base for the
            9/11 relic.

Scott quickly accepted the challenge with an idea to enhance
the visual display, keeping in mind that the piece would be
on display for many people to see. The concept included the
construction of a model of the twin towers. Scott solicited
assistance from Dayton artist and sculptor, Michael Bashaw. Wooden spacers are clamped into place to maintain the proper

Hobart Institute Vice President, Ron Scott, took the lead and
volunteered to fabricate the World Trade Center model and
mount it on a base for display, placing the 9/11 artifact at the

Stainless steel angle irons were tack-welded into place to provide
