Annual Collaborate to Educate Event Held
Every June, HIWT holds a two-day Collaborate to Educate seminar for
welding/manufacturing/shop instructors to allow them to come together
to share ideas and best practices for education in the classroom. This
year, the event was held June 14-15.
The seminar featured industry speakers on topics such as oxy fuel cutting
safety and best practices, how to inspect a weld without a code, student/
graduate employability factor and grading and welding fume gas safety.
Additionally, the participants completed a weld project and performed
penetrant testing on their welds. We were also able to take a tour of the
Hobart Filler Metal plant.
A portion of the seminar registration fee is used to award vouchers to
be used toward attendance at HIWT. This year’s winners were $1,500
to North Lawrence Career Center, Bedford, IN, Instructor David McCart
and $1,000 to Centerville High School, Centerville, OH, Instructor Ryan
Muhlenkamp.
