So, I originally created this group and it’s been a while since sidekicks.
I’ve posted on here. I’m from near the Mansfield, OH area and I
graduated from HIWT in May of ‘09. From there I was recruited With your powerful skills and our
to move to Mississippi and work for Northrop Grumman Ship innovative products, nothing can

welder for one year, building ships for the Navy. After that I
was offered a job back here in Ohio at a local fab shop that
I knew growing up where I worked for 14 months. I recently
took a position at JLG Industries. I started out as a welder but
now have moved up to the robot that welds the main frames
for all the Skytrak® telehandlers. It is a very big responsibility
and I owe it to HIWT for giving me the knowledge to progress Rob and his
through my career as far as I have. I’m also very pleased loyal sidekick,
                                                                        the XMT 350
                                                                              ®
to see that this group has grown as much as it has. I never
thought it would get nearly this large or provide all the useful
information and job postings it does. Thank you, Brenda Scott,
for maintaining this page as much as you have. ~ Hayden Gress

I would like to thank Hobart for a great start. I did a 4-yr
apprenticeship at the shipyard in 3 years, finishing at the
top of my class. I was a welding instructor while I was an
apprentice and had my 4th year tests in my first year. I was a
pipe welder for 10 years which allowed me to learn how to float
E-B rings. I also welded aluminum, copper, nickel, Monel®,
Inconnel®, stainless, HY100 and HY80 steels, etc. using all
processes of welding including GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW,
gas welding, and silver brazing. I did the custom bike thing at
Chaos Custom for a while and did fabrication work on heavy
equipment on construction sites. I also had training in South
Korea, Germany and Hawaii. So much more…not enough
room to list. You gave me a good start in life and I’ll never
forget it. ~ Curt Smith, New Jersey
